FAQ

  • Peel and Stick Suncatchers—AKA Salt Spring Suncatchers—stick to any glass surface and are easily removed and reused. They’re like a stained glass sticker for your window.

Suncatchers are made from a non-toxic, water-based paint that’s initially applied to glass, then peeled off and packaged for later application to a window or other glass surface.

Salt Spring Suncatchers are locally made. We use a stencil under the glass that we trace by hand to give them their uniform shape, then we paint each one individually.

  • If properly cared for, Peel and Stick Suncatchers last for many years. They can be removed and re-applied a number of times: best moved at room temperature.

Suncatchers are resistant to fading in most locations, but will fade if placed on a south-facing window that gets prolonged and regular sun exposure.

Peel and Stick Suncatchers are water-soluble. They are resistant to moisture but are best applied inside.

If applied to plastic/plexiglass they are permanent

  • Save some birds! Place suncatchers on windows that birds fly into. They also work for deck/patio glass. We recommend bringing them inside over the winter. To store, peel the suncatcher off the glass and put it into any regular plastic bag.

Save some people! Ever walked into a sliding glass door? I have. Put up a suncatcher or few to save yourself and your guests from bruised knees, noses and egos : )

Decorate! Your car (inside—they look the same from both sides), your house, your boat, your RV. Suncatchers are removable and reusable.

    * If placed on plastic UV coating or plexiglass, Suncatchers can be permanent.

Give a gift, make a memory. Every time your friend or family look at the Suncatcher on their window they’ll be reminded of you. Suncatchers make a great gift for parents and grandparents in Seniors’ Homes. Tuck one into a card and they don’t add anything to the cost of postage.

Make a child happy! Kids love the brightly coloured designs that light up with the sun. Wondering what to get for the little person in your life? Come see me at the market—I’m happy to help with advice.

  • Both clings and Suncatchers are designed to be stuck on windows.

Our Peel and Stick Suncatchers are hand-painted so each one is unique. They are water soluble and best for indoor use, or outdoor use during summer. Suncatchers can last for many years with little to no fading, but with extended exposure to direct sunlight in a south facing window they may fade.

Suncatchers are much thicker than clings, and look the same from both sides.

Clings are vinyl printed with a picture of one of our hand-painted Suncatchers. They are more durable and weather resistant and are suitable for outdoor use.

Clings are one-sided. The back of a cling is white with some elements of the front design showing. Clings are much thinner than Suncatchers.

  • No. Unfortunately Peel and Stick Suncatchers will not stick to screens. However, we make magnets that work on screens (except rollers).

Look for magnets in our shop that have two asterix ** next to the title. They will also have information about use on screens in the product information.

You will need to order two magnets, one for each side of the screen.

Two magnets back to back works on most screens. If you find it’s not strong enough for yours, please email and we will send you small magnets you can use to add strength to the bond. In our experience this works every time.

  • Yes, I did. I first came up with the idea in the late ‘90s. I sold Peel and Stick Suncatchers in Vancouver, the lower mainland and on Salt Spring. You can read the story here.

  • In person: Saturday Market on Salt Spring Island, April through October.

    Our online shop: here.

We are a small business focused on quality and care. We only sell direct, either in person at the market, or from our website. Our products are not available anywhere else.

  • We totally understand the appeal to have a unique Suncatcher made. Unfortunately, we usually don’t have the time to take on these orders.
